Summer 2027: learn how selection and registration work. Start with the family guide
Parents & campers

Families: start with the path that fits you.

Pyles uses a referral model. Families who are exploring the program have a different next step than families whose camper has already been selected.

Interested family

My camper has not been referred yet.

Pyles campers are referred by participating selection agencies and community partners. If someone has not referred your child, call the office to learn about options in your area.

My camper has already been selected.

Congratulations. Your next steps are registration, required forms, health documentation, packing, transportation details, and preparing for camp.

Registration steps
Summer 2027

Start preparing for camp.

Pyles shares session assignments and detailed summer dates with selected families through the registration process.

Families can use the parent guide now to understand selection, registration, packing, transportation, health forms, and communication before camp.

What selected families can expect

After the application is completed, Pyles provides required forms, including health documentation. Transportation and clothing information are sent as the camp date approaches.

What camp feels like

Fast-paced, active, and built around a small group.

Campers are placed with a group of roughly eight or nine campers their age and supported by counselors. Days combine outdoor activities, responsibilities, challenges, rest, and camp traditions.

Activities

Sports, horseback riding, archery, crafts, nature, fishing, ropes and initiative challenges, campfire, and a multi-day wilderness trip.

Camp location

Pyles operates near the Giant Sequoia National Monument at about 5,500 feet, roughly 60 miles from Porterville.

Transportation & communication

What parents need to know.

Getting to camp

Pyles charters transportation from designated community pickup points. Campers then complete the final approach to camp with staff. A transportation schedule is provided to enrolled families.

During camp

Routine phone calls and parent visits are not part of the camp model. Pyles contacts families when there is an emergency or a camper is truly struggling.

Attend virtual events

Pyles hosts virtual events throughout the off-season for returning campers. Check with the office for the current schedule.

Show your grades

Part of the application is sending current grades and progress reports from throughout the school year, to show how you've been progressing.

Get ready physically

Voyagers hike quite a bit. Anything you can do to build strength and endurance beforehand will serve you well. Track your progress and let camp know how it's going.

Stay in touch

Keep camp updated on how things are going at home, school, and with friends. Write a letter, send an email, or call. Reach out if you're not sure how to get in shape for camp.
